Our third session of the year

We’re coming for the second time to Scotland !

16 years after our first visit in Scotland, we’re back with a wonderful programme. We’ll be conducted by Gordon Bragg and accompagnied by the soloists Afonso Fesch (Violin) and Alexandre Foster (Cello).

Conductor

Gordon Bragg

Gordon is a well-known violinist, pianist, and conductor. He performs regularly with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and has performed with chamber ensembles including the Edinburgh Quartet (2012-2017), Hebrides Ensemble and Mr McFall’s Chamber. After his studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he studied conducting in Manchester and Zurich and has conducted the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Scottish Chamber Orchestra. He has extensive experience of conducting amateur and youth orchestras.

Soloist, Violin

Afonso Fesch

Born in Porto, Portuguese violinist Afonso Fesch has built a prolific career as a chamber musician, soloist, and orchestral player across Europe. A passionate advocate for chamber music and a sought-after soloist, he has appeared with leading ensembles including the Hamburger Symphoniker, Staatsorchester Kassel, Basel Sinfonieorchester, Porto Symphony Orchestra at Casa da Música, International Mahler Orchestra, Harbin Symphony Orchestra, and the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker.

He has also held concertmaster roles with several notable ensembles, including the International Mahler Orchestra, Ensemble Musique des Lumières. He is currently Principal First Violin of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Soloist, Cello

Alexandre Foster

The Canadian cellist Alexandre Foster, based in Basel, has been recognised both for his refined approach to music-making and his high versatility of playing. As a baroque and a modern cellist, he has performed with leading artists of both fields in some of the most prestigious halls of Europe. He is also a founding member of the prizewinning Calvino Trio, and he also plays in the baroque ensemble Les Passions de l’Âme.

 

After teaching posts at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart and at the Hochschule der Künste in Bern, he is now teaching at the Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel. He is regularly invited to Masterclasses across Europe.
